This make ahead breakfast is a little different than the
others I have posted. There is no cooking involved to make this ahead of time.
Just two ingredients put in a container. For me this was a make ahead I wanted because
Bubba loves his oatmeal but I hated to buy the pre-made packs from the store because
of the unnecessary preservatives in the packs but I liked the ease of them. The best part is these are that you can make them for half the cost of the boxed kind!!! I found the idea HERE. Of course i made a few changes to how I would do it, which I have posted
below for Brown Sugar Oatmeal.
*Break down of cost:
>Make Ahead
2lb or 42oz container of Great Value Oats-2.48= 5.9cents per oz
Great Value Brown Sugar-1.78=5.6cents per oz=.03cents per tablespoom
.059 cents
+.03 cents
.089cents =aprox .9 cents each
>Boxed Great Value Brown Sugar Oatmeal
10 packs at 1.62=.16 cents each
Bigger Picture:
2.48(oats) + 1.78(brown sugar)=4.26
1 container will make aprox. 53 servings of oatmeal=4.26
1.62 x 5 =8.10
1box(10 packs) x 5(5boxes)=8.10 + .48cents(3 more packs)=8.58
****$8.58 - $4.26= $4.22 in Savings*****
*You can leave this as plain oatmeal
*Add dried fruit when pre-making it for storage for added flavor
*Add fresh fruit after heating it
*Add a tablespoon of maple syrup before cooking for the Maple & Brown Sugar packs
*Add oatmeal crumble for added flavor and a little crunch
